The British Mountaineering Council, a UIAA full member, has confirmed that there are still some places left for in its Future of Fixed Equipment on British Crags: Technical, Legal & Financial Considerations Conference. The event will take place on Saturday 19 September at YHA Losehill Hall, Castleton, Peak District (England).
Across the UK there is an increasing legacy of ageing fixed equipment, while new routing continues apace. There is a growing need to develop and share best practice to ‘bolt back better’.
The conference, through workshops, demonstrations and keynote speakers, will bring together fixed equipment activists from across the country.
The UIAA, through members of its Safety Commission and Office, will actively contribute to the conference. The UIAA recently held its own bolting workshop in Kalymnos, Greece and will pass on learnings at the BMC meet. The event proved a huge success as detailed here.
The conference will present a great chance to share the experiences and wisdom of leading practitioners, and to nurture the shared ethos and philosophy that all newly sourced and installed fixed equipment should be of the highest possible standard of the day.
As BMC President Dominic Oughton reveals, the organisers are keen to welcome international participants: “We would like to reach out the the UIAA community to extend the invitation – it’s a shared global challenge and I’m sure there’s wisdom to be gained and passed on. We would be delighted to welcome participants from far and wide, and we would be able to offer free entry and accommodation.”
