The International Climbing and Mountaineering Federation (UIAA) is deeply saddened by the news from Pakistan of the avalanche on Broad Peak, which claimed the lives of a number of climbers, including renowned mountaineer Nirmal Purja, who was leading the expedition.
The UIAA extends its profound sympathies to the families, friends and loved ones of those who lost their lives. It also offers its support to its member federation, the Alpine Club of Pakistan, which has been instrumental in coordinating the search and rescue efforts on the ground.
